From the President's Desk - Wayne Shifflett

This will be the last tidbits of news from your president's desk who will be retiring after this newsletter and the meeting on June 5th.  It has been a real pleasure to serve in this capacity over the last two years. I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your support and guidance as we all experience the joys of seeing and learning about the various bird projects here in the local area and internationally. In reflecting over the year one of the highlights has to be the tremendous efforts put in the bird seed sales and the manual efforts in the distribution of the nearly 22,000 lbs. of seeds. The sale of these seeds provided the financial support for the eight plus nonprofit organizations that your club supported during the year. This project is always a total team effort and I know that future seed sales will also reflect the similar drive and determination. The Program Chairman, Kay Gibson did an outstanding job of bringing outstanding and varied programs to the monthly meetings. There were many outstanding field trips led by Tom Mizell, Ken Hinkle and others. I want to personally thank Ken Hinkle for all his endless efforts in printing the monthly RBC newsletter and keeping us current on local bird sightings. In conclusion, I believe that the past year was a total success because so many people contributed significantly with their time and energy to make it one of the best years ever.  It was my pleasure to be a part of it. I know that the incoming President Kay Gibson will bring her usual energy and expertise to ensure another successful year for 2008-09.
